If you have windows in your bathroom, you probably are a bit concerned about privacy issues. After all, trying to relax in the tub is so much harder if you are worried about peeping toms or accidental exhibitions. However, with the high humidity in many bathrooms, not all blinds hold up well. Bathroom curtains and blinds should be able to stand high humidity and should be able to handle frequent cleaning.
Aluminum Bathroom Blinds
If you have a bathroom that tends to be very humid, aluminum blinds are a great option. These blinds come in many colors. Narrow or wide slats and vertical or horizontal blind options give you plenty of style choices.
Faux Wood Blinds
A crisp curtain hanging in the bathroom window doesn't just provide some privacy. It also is a way to pull your decor together. Choose a curtain fabric that has all the colors in your bathroom in it and a room that looked a bit unorganized before looks like a planned decorating scheme.
The important thing about bathroom curtains is to use fabrics that are water resistant and do not need to be dry cleaned. Look for fabrics that have been treated with a protective coating, such as Scotchguard. Oilcloth is a good option for simple, straight curtains, but will not look attractive if you are making full, ruffled curtains. Simple polished cottons are a good choice for fuller curtains. They are the ideal weight and are easy to wash. In addition, the polished finish makes them a bit less wrinkle prone than traditional cottons.
Bathroom Curtains and Blinds on a Budget
If you don't have a lot of money to fit your bathroom windows with a protective covering, consider budget alternatives to custom blinds and curtains. Roller shades made with waterproof material are usually less expensive than blinds, but provide plenty of privacy. Instead of buying expensive curtains, shop for a clearanced shower curtain and cut it down to fit your window. This way, the tricky part at the top of the curtain is already finished and you will simply have to hem the bottom and the side that you've cut down. If you can't sew a stitch, you can still make the alteration. Fold the fabric to the right width and length and then glue it into place using fabric glue.
